The halls of Lewiston High School were bustling with activity as our Spirit week kicked off on Monday October 1. The students of LHS showed off their school spirit by wearing anything and everything mixed-matched. This included everything from plaid paired with polka dots to floral prints with stripes. While some took their school spirit to a new level, others who were more on the shy side came to school sporting a braid and pigtail or two different shoes. This was also the day we started our penny drive to raise money and as a competition between classes. To see who could bring in the most pennies and sabotage the other classes by putting in silver coins. The drive went on all week. After school followed with activities such as a balloon toss and cart rally, where the juniors took victory of the day.
Tuesday was like looking into a time capsule as people showed up wearing poodle skirts, 80’s, and many other fashions from decades and even centuries as some people dressed as gladiators and wore togas. The after school activities were the egg toss, orange relay race, male and female pumpkin seed spitting contest, and a pumpkin decorating contest as well. The juniors also won the day on Tuesday.
Wednesday was a day that divided the school into what class you were. If you were a senior you wore red, juniors wore green, and sophomores wore orange, while the freshmen wore yellow. This day got very hectic as you could see students in the hallways and bathrooms, spraying their hair the colors of their class. There were even people who showed up to school with their entire bodies painted to represent their year. The after school was tricycle races, pushing a car in the parking lot, three legged races, and a powder puff football game. The seniors were the winners of that day.
There was a sea of people wearing their favorite team’s colors on Thursday. Fan day was a new addition to our homecoming schedule this year. There were people wearing everything from professional teams to people wearing the jerseys of the sport they played for the school. The seniors were the winners of the tug-of-wars and the hula races that took place after school.
Friday was the day we all came together as a school and wore as much blue and white as we could possibly find. People wore the homecoming tee-shirts that were sold by the cheerleaders or anything they could find that had the schools colors. At the end of the day the entire school was assembled in the gym for a pep rally. The pep rally lasted around an hour and had everything from a frozen t-shirt competition to shaving a balloon to pie eating and tug of war. The senior won spirit week in all with the juniors taking Second, the sophomores taking third, and the freshmen coming in last.
At seven o’clock a massive crowd assembled to watch the Blue Devil’s football team play Bangor. They unfortunately lost and with it their undefeated title. Spirit week ended on Saturday with a homecoming dance at 8 pm.
