LISBON – Election clerks worked until after midnight Tuesday sorting and hand-counting 618 write-in votes on 399 ballots for five municipal offices for which there were no candidates.

Taking the top write-in vote was Faye Ingersoll, with 119 votes for a single three-year opening on the School Committee. Anderson Tuttle got 33 and Pete Reed got 12.

The second highest write-in vote-getter was longtime incumbent water commissioner Bill Bauer, who was returned to that position with 46 votes. Former Selectmen Layne Curtis and J. Michael Huston, received 42 and 21 votes, respectively.

Elected to the at-large seat on the budget advisory board was Curtis, with 5 votes; to the budget advisory board District I seat, Pete Reed with 2 votes; and to the District II seat, Norris Ingersoll with 2 votes.

There were numerous write-ins with 1 or 2 votes. Town officials believe 618 write-in votes is a record for any town election, as are five openings without a candidate.
