MARLBOROUGH, N.H. (AP) – A 74-year-old woman was saved from being crushed by a tractor trailer on Tuesday when a co-worker ran to her aid.

Mary Hartwell of Hillsboro was standing at the mailboxes outside Silver Direct, a printing and packaging company, when she was knocked down and pinned by a car carrier truck that had backed over her.

“All I remember is lying on my back and seeing these tires coming at me,” she said. Co-worker Christie Wilder saw it happening and sprinted outside to warn the driver. He hit the brakes when he saw her.

Police Chief Christopher Lyons said if Wilder hadn’t run outside, Hartwell would have been killed. Hartwell was treated for scrapes and bruises.

Hartwell had her back to the truck and was in the driver’s blind spot, according to Lyons, who said no charges will be filed in connection with the incident.

Hartwell, who’s retired and works to stay active, said she plans to return to work on Monday.

“I don’t like to be disabled or anything like that,” she said. “I’ll be going back to work.”
