WILTON – The Fire and Rescue Department will receive $34,563 through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program, Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, announced Wednesday. The grant was awarded by the Department of Homeland Security.
Fire Chief Sonny Dunham, pleased to hear the news, said the department applied for the grant to buy training materials. The materials include books and CDs as well as simulators, said fire Capt. Kyle Ellis. Firefighters can use computers for simulated training, especially for drivers and pump operators, he said.
Part of the grant proposal included the department’s willingness to loan other agencies and fire departments the materials that will be purchased with the grant.
