NORWAY – The Community Thanksgiving Dinner Committee invites people from Oxford Hills to share a Thanksgiving Day meal with friends and neighbors at noon Thursday, Nov. 22, at the St. Catherine of Sienna and Christ Episcopal Church of St. Catherine, 32 Paris St.

A full-course dinner will be prepared and served by church members. A traditional Thanksgiving dinner served family-style with turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, vegetables and homemade pies will be held. There is no charge.

The dinner follows a practice that began more than 20 years ago by a parishioner of St. Catherine of Sienna Church who recognized a need in the community. She knew of several individuals who were spending Thanksgiving Day alone and invited them to her home.

It became an annual event until the number of people who wanted to participate became too large for her to accommodate at her house. At that point the woman turned to St. Catherine’s for help because the church has a large kitchen and room for 120 guests. The community dinner has become an annual, Thanksgiving Day event.
