LEWISTON – Sisters of Charity Health System will once again host “Pack the Bus,” a semiannual event to help restock its food pantry. Food supplies are low at this time of year.

Residents are asked to help “Pack the Bus” with food from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, at the Shaw’s supermarkets in Lewiston and Auburn.

Items in the greatest need are baby food, formula, diapers and food staples such as canned and dry pastas, canned meats (tuna especially) and other nonperishable items.

Cash donations are also welcome. With every $1 donation, the Sisters of Charity Food Pantry can provide $12.50 worth of food. An average box of cereal costs the pantry 23 cents. A $5 donation will buy $60 in food. The pantry feeds between 250 and 320 families a week.

Sisters of Charity is also looking for volunteers to help accept donations at the bus. If interested, call the Sisters of Charity Food Pantry at 777-3366 or e-mail [email protected] and include phone number and the time of day available to volunteer.
