The Bethel Water District will receive more than $1.3 million from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to help repair its water system, damaged in a July 11 deluge.

The announcement of the funding was made by Maine’s U.S. Sens. Olympia J. Snowe and Susan Collins, both Republicans.

The money will help the water district build a filtration plant to continue using Chapman Brook as its municipal water source, according to the senators’ announcement.

The storm dumped between 6 and 8 inches of rain on the area in 45 minutes, destroying the water system.
