RUMFORD – A former Rumford man arrested by New Jersey State Police on 14 felony sex crimes involving an 11-year-old girl in Rumford will return to Maine.
On Friday morning, Rumford police were advised that O. B. Willie Rose, 83, who is being held in Monmouth County Jail in Freehold, N.J., had waived extradition at a hearing late Thursday afternoon, according to Rumford Detective Lt. Mark Cayer.
Additionally, an Oxford County grand jury indicted Rose this week on four counts of gross sexual assault, nine counts of Class A unlawful sexual contact, and one count of Class B unlawful sexual contact.
Early next week, Cayer and Sgt. James Bernard will take a Rumford police cruiser down to get Rose, an eight-hour one-way drive.
“There will be no cost to taxpayers, because there is a fund through the (district attorney’s) office to extradite prisoners,” Cayer said Friday afternoon. “Driving down was the cheapest way to do it.”
When they return, Rose will be booked into the Oxford County Jail in Paris and arraigned within 48 hours in Oxford County Superior Court. Bail will then be set.
Rose lived in Jamesburg, N.J., before moving to Rumford last August. He moved back to New Jersey on Oct. 14.
On Oct. 20, the mother of a girl filed a complaint with Rumford police stating her daughter had been sexually assaulted by Rose in Rumford from August to October, Detective Sgt. Daniel Garbarini said.
Charges were filed and Rose was arrested Oct. 27 at his new home in Roosevelt, N.J. Bail was set at $200,000 cash. He has remained in jail because he has been unable to make $10,000 cash bail.
