PARIS – Charges continue to rack up against Norman Thompson, accused in a string of burglaries and thefts in two counties.
On Friday, the day after an Androscoggin County grand jury indicted the 35-year-old man on charges of theft, forgery and violating conditions of release, an Oxford County grand jury in Paris charged him with burglary, theft, criminal mischief, and violating conditions of release.
An arraignment date has yet to be set, according to an Oxford County Superior Court official contacted on Friday afternoon in Paris.
Thompson, who has been living in Lewiston and Mexico, has been incarcerated at Oxford County Jail in Paris since being arrested after last month’s 14-hour standoff with police at his mother’s home in Mexico.
Prior to the standoff, Mexico officers were looking for Thompson in connection with a Pearl Street burglary, according to Sgt. Roy Hodsdon.
Thompson was charged with that crime, where Hodsdon said Thompson took an estimated $10,000 in property from the home, including televisions, computers, phones, lamps, food and beer.
Thompson is also a suspect in a dozen other home and vehicle burglaries, car thefts and incidents of criminal mischief that took place from Oct. 6 through 11, Hodsdon said.
The Androscoggin County indictments accuse Thompson of stealing two vehicles from Turner and Lewiston and passing bad checks, all in September.
He was also accused of violating terms from an earlier release from jail by committing new crimes.
Thompson was initially released from the Androscoggin County Jail on Oct. 5, two days after a Sun Journal photographer helped Lewiston police apprehend him.
The Mexico crime spree apparently began at 6:30 a.m. Oct. 6 when a locked vehicle parked at a Howard Street residence was burglarized and credit cards, a wallet, and a cell phone were taken.
A Dodge van, stolen on Oct. 6 from a Kimball Avenue home, was recovered Oct. 10 in Rumford. However, stolen credit cards were not.
Other incidents police believe to be related include a stolen silver and maroon Chevrolet pickup truck that had been stolen the night of Oct. 10 and recovered Oct. 12.
Hodsdon said that vehicle is believed to have been used to commit a theft the night of Oct. 10 on Fourth Street. He said a pickup matching the truck’s description was in a neighbor’s yard full of items.
The Fourth Street residence had been burglarized and about $8,500 of new construction materials were taken.
