BELGRADE (AP) – Searchers recovered a body Sunday in Belgrade on Great Pond where an aluminum skiff had capsized a day before, sending four people to the hospital, including three children. The accident had left authorities looking for a fifth family member.
Lt. Pat Dorian of the Maine Warden Service said the victims were a grandfather, father, and three sons, ages 14, 12, and 10, who camp out on an island on the lake annually in November.
State police said the three children and one of the adults were able to make it to shore and were transported to an area hospital for possible hypothermia.
The missing man was identified as 69-year-old Thomas Kopp of Waterville. His body was found around 10 a.m.
