AUBURN – Melvina Louise DeRosay Obie, 89, of Auburn passed on to join her family in heaven on Thursday, Nov. 8, at Clover Health Center in Auburn.
She was born Melvina Louise DeRosay in Auburn on Aug. 5, 1918, to William and Annie Mae (Findley) DeRosay Sr. She was educated in Auburn schools and married Roland Obie on Dec. 26, 1934. Roland predeceased her on March 29, 1968.
Her entire life was devoted to her four children and their families. In her early years, she worked with her husband in his shoe repair business. She worked at St. Mary’s hospital for 10 years until her retirement.
She took great pleasure in nature’s wonders and the simpler life of years gone by. She shared fond memories of her uncle’s camp at Bailey Island and the day of horse-drawn carts delivering ice and vegetables to her home on Broad Street in Auburn. Two days before her death, the most colorful sunset appeared in her window at Clover. She said God sent it for us to enjoy. Her daily contact with her children throughout her life provided her great piece of mind. If they were ok, she was ok. Her strength and caring is her legacy. She will be sadly missed by her children, grandchildren, and family until we reunite. Rest well.
She is survived by her four loving children, Rita and husband, George Raymond, Betty and husband, Normand Dallaire, Gerard Obie and wife, Lorraine and Linda and husband, Donald Agren; seven grandchildren, Cindy, Paul, Dianne, Monita, Julie, Jessica and Kristopher; fifteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She took pride in them all. Five sister-in-laws, Fernande DeRosay, Helen Keith, Connie Roberge, Antoinette Lessard and Irene Deprez; and brother-in-law, Roger Obie.
She was predeceased by her sisters, Florence Taylor, Cecilia Dyer and Irene Howard; and brother, William DeRosay Jr.; and grandson, James Raymond Sr.
With heartfelt gratitude we praise Dr. Hattan and the entire staff at Clover Health Care for the loving care and attention, making mom’s final days the most comfortable possible, and the support they gave to her family. And to her special niece, Ann Proctor on staff at Clover, who made sure she had the best of care and was there when she took her last breath.
