MONMOUTH – Monmouth Community Players will hold auditions for “On Golden Pond” this month at Cumston Hall.

Auditions, consisting of cold readings from the play, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, and at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 19, at the hall on Main Street.

The play revolving around Norman and Ethel Thayer who visit their summer cottage on Golden Pond will be staged Jan. 18-20 and 25-27. It will be directed by Kathleen Nation.

A breakdown of characters follows:

Norman Thayer, 55-80. His health is good with a touch of arthritis and palpitations. Flirting with senility but he knows it and plays it to the hilt.

Ethel Thayer, 50-75, Norman’s wife. Small and energetic. She’s the opposite of Norman in many ways. She fills the empty spaces when he grows quiet.

Charlie Martin, 35-50. A big round man. Weather-beaten face, smiling eyes, strong Maine accent. In his own rustic simple way, he is charming.

Chelsea Thayer Wayne, 35-45, daughter of Norman and Ethel. Quite pretty. Maybe a bit heavy, athletic looking, tan, a nervous type, something dark about her but she has her father’s humor.

Billy Ray, 12-16. Short, flippant, but only to cover his awkwardness. He is eager and bright. His hair is long. His posture is terrible.

Bill Ray, 35-50, Beau to Chelsea, father to Billy. Tends to be serious but has a good sense of humor when he remembers to use it.
