FARMINGTON – Prior to the start of the November potluck supper/meeting of Farmington Emblem Club 460, area youth cheerleaders performed some of their cheering techniques for the club members and visiting relatives and coaches.
There were cheering groups from the Bobcats, Links, Patriots, Giants and the Mt. Blue Middle School.
Prior to the start of the meeting, Farmington Elks Exalted Ruler Bill Deshaies presented the Emblem fair food booth co-chairwomen, Sylvia Richards and Robin Bragg, with a check for the club’s half of the profits, to be used to help people in need in the area during the year.
The meeting began at 7 p.m. with 31 members present and 58 absent, for a total membership of 89.
Americanism Chairwoman Kamilla Hall read a story titled “The Veteran.” She reminded everyone to vote and to fly their flags on Veterans Day, Nov. 11. Kamilla got volunteers to help with a flag-folding ceremony on Nov. 8 at the West Farmington Grange.
Community Service Chairwoman Lois Barker got members to help with the Thanksgiving dinner to take place at the Farmington Elks Lodge on Sunday, Nov. 25, for area nursing home residents and caregivers. Some members will cook the turkeys, some will arrive early that day to prepare the meal and others will get the hall ready and serve the meal.
Members assisted Chairwoman Shannon Smith with the preparation and serving of a banquet honoring youth cheerleaders on Nov. 6. Smith reminded members to be at the Granary by 7:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, to help decorate the Emblem Club-sponsored Christmas tree to be raffled off that night by the Rotary Club.
First Vice President Sylvia Richards is selling raffle tickets on a quilt with rack and an afghan with rack. The racks were made by Richard Knight, husband of deceased member and former first vice president Sandra Knight. The tickets are $10 each or six for $5. If interested, call Richards at 645-4092. The winning ticket will be drawn at the club’s next meeting night, Dec. 6.
Craft fairs Co-chairwoman Jean Corcoran reminded members to bring in a baked food item or craft item to the Dec. 1 fair. Cutlery will be sold as a money raiser for community service. Tables are still available. For information, call Corcoran at 645-2695 or Jacques at 645-4314. The fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Elks Lodge.
The club voted to donate to Maine District Court toward a children’s Christmas party. This month’s 50/50 raffle was won by Gloria Nile and the mystery gift by Doris Drake.
The club’s Dec. 6 meeting will begin at 6 p.m. followed by a Christmas party and munchies.
