WATERVILLE – Eugene M. Cobb Sr., 84, of Norridgewock, died Nov. 11, at the Inland Hospital after a brief illness, with loving family members at his bedside.

He was born in Peabody, Mass., Nov. 16, 1922, the son of Edwin L. And Elsie M. (Foss) Cobb. When their mother died and their father could not care for them, he and his brothers spent seven years at the Kurn Hattin home in Westminster, Vt. He remembered those years as being some of the best of his childhood years.

He later graduated from high school in Georgetown, Mass., and was a graduate of Essex County Agricultural School in Danvers, Mass. He was married to Viola M. Gates on July 20, 1942. He served in World War II as a gunner in the Army/Air Force, flying in numerous missions.

After his honorable discharge from the military in 1945, he worked as a dairy farmer, eventually buying his own farm in Hampden. Later he worked for Sealtest Ice-cream of Framingham, Mass., retiring after 29 years there in 1984. He and his wife moved back to Maine in 1987, where they have resided since that time.

He was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church of Norridgewock and loved mountain climbing, camping, gardening, reading, teasing his grandchildren and telling jokes.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Viola Marie Gates Cobb; three sons, Eugene M. Cobb Jr. and his wife, Janice, David Cobb and his wife, Karen, and Darrell Cobb and his wife, Sharon; a daughter, Susan Huntley and her husband, Daniel; a brother, Sumner Cobb; a sister, Thelma Cobb; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews.

He was predeceased by four brothers, Richard, Raymond, Philip Cobb and Clifford Foss; and a sister, Elsie Curran.
