Dear Sun Spots: New Beginnings’ outreach program is looking for help from column readers!
We provide basic needs and often items to help youths, 14 to 21 years old, start out on their own. We’re hoping Sun Spots column readers will be able to assist here. They often need kitchen utensils, pots and pans, towels, bedding, baby supplies and cleaning supplies. Clothing is a popular donation but new socks and new underwear are always very much needed! With the cold winter months almost upon us, any kind of outerwear would be greatly appreciated. Secondhand items, gently used would work well here. We are seeking adult sizes in small, medium and large for the girls and medium and large for the boys. If anyone has any of these items that they would be willing to donate, please contact our New Beginnings’ Outreach Program at 795-6831. Our teens would be very grateful for your generosity. – Jada Caron, Outreach Worker, Lewiston.
Dear Sun Spots: I need to thank you and your readers. My granddaughter had a flute and my grandson his trumpet on the same day you placed my need in your column! The act of kindness and generosity these kind people showed touched our hearts so very much. I urge any others who have musical instruments that are being unused to please consider contacting their local schools to see if there are any other children with the same needs. Again thank you, thank you, thank you column readers! – No Name, No Town.
Answer: Way to go, column readers! Sun Spots is always amazed at the speed in which column readers respond, and so kindly and generously! You’ve sure brought some music in these lives.
Dear Sun Spots: Quite some time ago you published an article about a gentleman from Lewiston who collects antique television sets. I have been unable to find the article via the archives and have a 1950s vintage set. I would like to contact him regarding adding this set to his collection. – Cheryl Adams, Lisbon Falls.
Answer: Hopefully readers will recall this one and be able to assist you, Cheryl. Sun Spots has not located this particular article based on the information provided above.

Dear Sun Spots: I have been trying to find a milk can with the name Erland Tainter on it. I have only seen one in the past. It was the property of a woman who lived on Memorial Drive in Winthrop. She has since passed away. I understand she sold the milk can to an antique dealer somewhere in that area. The milk can had been painted black with a scenery picture on it. Above the picture was a gold nameplate. Erland Tainter was my husband’s grandfather. I would love to surprise him with this milk can. If anyone can please help me, phone 897-6808. You cannot imagine how happy it would make me to find one and have it back in the family. – Leslie Tainter, No Town.
Dear Sun Spots: Is there anyone in the area that will copy a complete collection of photos and then save them to DVD or same type media for archiving. I cannot count the many that have been lost to time and atmosphere that they were stored in. I have several large boxes of family memories that it would be nice to have a copy in a safe deposit box so that they could be available for future members. Thank you. – Curtis, Durham.
