Rumford sank to new depths during the early hours of Nov. 5. That was the day two selectmen and a former fire chief took it upon themselves to cut down the trees in front of the town hall. It didn’t matter to them that the situation was being handled through proper channels.

They wanted what they wanted. They acted like irresponsible children.

I feel only disgust. If there are town officials acting so irresponsibly, this town is dead in its tracks.

If someone else had cut those trees, he probably would have been arrested.

We wonder what has happened to the world… well, that is what has happened – self-centered people who want things their way, and people afraid to buck them.

I would like to see the two selectmen ousted, and charges brought against those three people. It is time for those officials to be made accountable for their actions. They are not above the law.

Theresa Fraser, Rumford
