FARMINGTON – Police say driver inexperience was a factor in a crash that injured two teenagers Wednesday on their way home from school after the pickup truck they were riding in went out of control on a dirt section of Ramsdell Road. It rolled over and landed on its side and both occupants, who were not wearing seat belts, said they were thrown from the truck, Farmington police officer Edward Hastings said.

Matthew Kaherl 16, from Jay, was giving Tyler Gould, 16, of New Vineyard, a ride home from Mt. Blue High School in Farmington and they were heading toward Route 27 when the accident occurred about 2:38 p.m., Hastings said.

Both boys were taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington before one was transported by medical helicopter and the other by ambulance to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

As far as he knew, Hastings said, the injuries they received were non-life-threatening.

Hastings and Detective Marc Bowering took some measurements for accident reconstruction purposes during daylight because they knew that Maine State Police Trooper Timothy Turner, who was traveling from southern Oxford County, wouldn’t arrive until dusk.
