Southern New Hampshire University in Manchester, N.H., has inducted Durham resident Wendy DeCoste into Alpha Sigma Lambda, the honor society for adult and nontraditional learners. This is the inaugural year for the honor society at SNHU.
DeCoste is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in social science through SNHU Online, the university’s distance education program. Students who were invited to join Alpha Sigma Lambda belong to the top 10 percent of their class and are required to have completed at least 27 SNHU credits, 12 of which should be in the liberal arts.
“We are proud of all of our students tonight and we were impressed that many of our inductees were distance learners,” said Ellen Ryder Griffin, dean of the School of Professional and Continuing Education. “Learners who study online are a sign of the times for higher education.”
