Auburn church honors 50-year members
AUBURN – The United Methodist Church of Auburn honored 23 individuals, all of whom have been members of the congregation for at least 50 years, on Oct. 21. Each person received a certificate noting the date on which they had become a member.
After the worship service they were honored at a luncheon put on by the church’s Nurture Committee.
The longest standing member of the congregation is Viola McGilvery, who joined the church in 1933, followed by Dorothy Cole, who became a member in 1934. In all, the church has 45 who have been members for at least 50 years.
The United Methodist Church of Auburn is located at 439 Park Ave. and will celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2011.
