Judson Duncan’s (Nov. 12) rantings are typical of socialists that hate everything America stands for and was built upon. The United States was built on the principles of capitalism and small government. If the Founding Fathers had intended for the government to run everything, and everybody’s lives, they would have appointed George Washington as king.
If you do not like the American system, move to France. The labor unions run the country, unemployment is over 25 percent, employers will not hire new employees or expand their businesses because they are not allowed to fire anyone. New innovation is almost unheard of because there is no incentive to excel, the government would just take it away from them. Maine is a good example of socialist programs.
The business climate is terrible, taxes are outrageous, young people leave the state every year in search of jobs that pay a living wage. Socialists have controlled this state for 35 years, calling themselves Democrats. It is only a shadow of the Democratic party I voted for in the early 70s. Their numerous “social” programs are designed to make the people completely dependent on government. If they had their way, employers would give the paychecks to the state, and the government would give us what they think we should have. Socialism has never succeeded as a valid form of government. It creates tyranny, and total government control over your existence.
Is that truly the form of government you want?
