LEWISTON – Ashley Morgan, a member of the Lewiston Youth Advisory Council, was the focus of her peers and Mayor Laurent F. Gilbert Sr. on Oct. 25 when they walked into her Lewiston High School classroom.
Due to her exemplary dedication to the filming of “Smashed,” a film project of the youth council’s U Booze U Looze campaign, members wanted to recognize one of their own for the October 2007 citation, and Gilbert concurred.
The mayor was joined by LYAC members Luke Jensen, Tim Stretton and Athena Andoniades, along with Lewiston High School Principal Gus Leblanc.
Gilbert called Morgan to the front of the room and read the citation, “Ashley, you are commended for your ‘stellar’ service to the Lewiston Youth Advisory Council and for bringing the idea of an underage drinking awareness campaign to that group.
“Your leadership throughout the development of U Booze U Looze and your unwavering dedication to the production of “Smashed” have been exemplary. You have indeed spent countless hours working on all aspects of the film project, and your hard work and passion will no doubt all be worth it when “Smashed” premieres at Auburn Flagship Cinema on Oct. 29, 2007. Bravo!”
Throughout the year, mayoral citations are given to a Lewiston middle school or high school student, and nominations for the November 2007 citation are due no later than Nov. 9.
A one-page nomination must explain an achievement or accomplishment deemed as “above and beyond” or “extraordinary” that has occurred in the last two months.
Nominations may be submitted to Gilbert and the Lewiston Youth Advisory Council at 27 Pine St., Lewiston, ME 04240, or via [email protected] or [email protected]. When a recipient is selected for November, the presentation will be made later shortly after at the student’s school.
