GREENE – Charles “C.P.” J. Peillet, a native of Rumford, moved to Lewiston in 1956 to live with the love of his life, Lucille Comeau Peillet, died Nov. 15.

He was born Feb. 6, 1929, son of Auguste Noel Peillet and Madeline Grimaldi Grimaud Kloesz. Chuck was brought at a young age to his parents’ native France, where he spent most of his youth and was educated in French schools. He often visited with his family in France, most recently this past summer visiting Grenoble and Embrun.

A proud member of the U.S. Army Constabulary, 1st CO. 3rd BN 6th Artillery Command, he continued his association with his band of brothers up to his final days. He was part of the peacekeeping troops in Europe after World War II, where his language skills and cultural awareness of French and German cultures proved invaluable in aiding relations in foreign affairs.

An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed landscaping, fishing and walks with his beloved Weimaraners, Duke and Daizie. His later years were spent maintaining his lakeside home which brought him lasting memories with his beloved wife, Lucille.

He was an accomplished business professional and athlete. As president and founder of CP Associates, he established his reputation for honesty and integrity in his field. He served as president of the Underwriters Insurance Association.

As an athlete, he achieved several awards while in the U.S. Army for long distance swimming on an international basis. This led to interest by the U.S. Olympic Swim association to have him coach within their organization in Florida. While he was honored by the opportunity, he decided to return to Maine, which he and Lucille loved.

He was a practicing Roman Catholic who was proud that he and his wife were the first couple married and have all three of their children baptized at the Franciscan Greene Monastery. He volunteered for several years with the St. Joseph Boy Scouts of America, Troop 171, and was a scout leader of his son Mark’s group.

He was active in several civic and community groups such as working on behalf of his dear friend, John Jenkins, on the mayor’s first political campaign and the Greene Economic & Community Development Association. He was vigilant in his passion to preserve the pristine natural habitat of Lake Sabattus.

He is survived by his children, Susan Peillet Yule of West Newton, Mass., Major Mark Peillet of Auburn, and Karen Pulkkinen of Lewiston and their families; as well as his nephew and godchild, Charles Despres of France; he will be dearly missed by his grandchildren, Sean Charles Yule of Newton, Mass., and Kali Pulkkinen of Lewiston.
