FARMINGTON – Burna S. Coolidge, 87, a longtime resident of North Livermore, died early Monday, Nov. 19, at Sandy River Healthcare Center.

She was born in Farmington on March 1, 1920, the daughter of Floyd J. Smith and Florice Evelyn Winslow Smith of Strong and later of Jay. She was educated in the local schools of Strong and Livermore Falls and graduated from Livermore Falls High School, Class of 1937. She furthered her education at Bliss Business School in Lewiston, graduating in 1938.

On Sept. 15, 1940 in Ogunquit, she married John Fremont Coolidge, the son of John Guy Coolidge and Edith Knowles Coolidge of North Livermore. They resided in Livermore Falls and later at the Coolidge family homestead in North Livermore and they summered regularly in the family cottage at South Harpswell.

She was the consummate life-long homemaker for her family and could not have been loved more by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchild. She was a strong woman and was the central touchstone for the family. To all who knew her she was a very private, caring, generous and loving woman who always put her family and others before herself.

She was an active member of the Eaton Memorial United Methodist Church in Livermore Falls and a longtime member of the Eastern Star and Kings Daughters and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a wonderful cook, an avid reader, an accomplished knitter, a skilled bridge player and she loved the several pug dogs she had over the years.

She is survived by her son, John G. Coolidge of North Livermore; her daughter, Jane W. Coolidge of Portland; five grandchildren, John F. Coolidge and his wife, Lorna, of Portland, Catherine G. Coolidge of Winthrop, Mary C. McCrann and her husband, DJ, of Boston, Samuel A. Coolidge of Portland and Johanna W. Young of Portland; and a great-granddaughter, Catelyn I. Coolidge.

She was predeceased by her brothers, Duane C. Smith and J. Edmund Smith.
