NEW VINEYARD – Lawrence E. Roberts II, 57, of New Vineyard died Saturday, Nov. 17, at his home on the Barker Road.
Larry, a lifelong resident of New Vineyard was born Oct. 16, 1950, the son of Lawrence E. and June (Wilson) Roberts. He was a graduate of Farmington High School. After graduation he worked for his father in the hot top business until he went to work for the Maine Department of Transportation Bridge Maintenance crew, retiring in 1996 after 26 years of service. He then worked for Barker and Sons Concrete until 2001.
He was a member of the Farmington Elks Lodge for more than 30 years and was a lifetime member of the West Farmington Fire Department. In his younger years, he played in a local softball league.
He spent much of his retirement rebuilding the family camp, and also enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cribbage and being with friends and family. He also enjoyed getting firewood prepared, gardening and spending time at the camp, but was just as happy being around his home. He had many friends and enjoyed their trips, card playing, and their friendship. He was a loving, trustworthy, caring, unbelievable man who was loved by many.
He is survived by his life partner of 24 years, Lynda Cutler Haskell of New Vineyard; his mother, June Roberts of New Vineyard; two daughters, Betsy Roberts of North Hampton, N.H., and Darcy Roberts Asprogiannis and her husband, Dimitri (Jim), of Stratham, N.H.; two grandchildren, Alexandra and Pavlos Asprogiannis; he is also survived by Tiffany Haskell Lehigh of Standish and husband, Jason Lehigh, and D. Christopher Norton of Wallingford, Conn., and partner, Jessica Sobel; another grandson, Izack W. Enman of Standish; four sisters, Beverly Oliver and companion, Robert Ross, of Farmington, Gloria Jean Bailey and her husband, Neils Bailey, of Gray, Patricia York and her husband, Fred York, of New Vineyard and Betty Ann Searles and her husband, Robert Searles, of New Vineyard; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father in 1977.
