NORWAY – Robert Martel Vezina, 86, of Oxford, died Monday, Nov. 19, at Stephens Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Berlin, N.H., April 1, 1921, the son of Albert and Eugenia Martel Vezina. He graduated from Gorham High School in Gorham, N.H., where he played baseball, was a boxer and was a member of the glee club. He faithfully served his country in the U.S. Army, where he was also a boxer. He was a Purple Heart recipient and was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant with company B, 331st Calvary.

He worked for Portland Pipeline, then at Robinson Manufacturing for many years. He was a foreman at Northeast Homes, now known as Oxford Homes and had worked in maintenance and as a bagger at Smith’s Shop ‘n Save. He was a member of the Governor’s Club at the WalMart Dunkin Donuts. He was kind to all and loved being able to give gold dollars to friends and family on special occasions or just to simply give.

He is survived by a son, Robert Milton Vezina and his wife, Christine, of Clayton, Calif.; a daughter, Edythe J. Estes and her husband, Gregory, of South Paris; grandchildren, Karley and Josey Estes, Jillian Diffin, Cassandra Vezina, Nicholas and Maren Padilla, Troy and Kevin Vezina; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife, Frances; three brothers; and two sisters.
