Many people don’t realize how many people are killed by inhaling the many poisons in cigarettes. 1,200 people die each day due to smoking related deaths. It can give you cancer, emphysema, bronchial infections, and can lead to heart attacks and strokes. It also can cause tooth decay, bad breath, and you will cough a lot more if you smoke. According to tobbacofreekids.org, smoking has killed 26,470,151 people as of October 25, 1999. Smoking kills more people each year than alcohol, drugs, murder, suicide, car accidents, and AIDS combined.
If nobody smoked, then the whole world would be healthier. Even nonsmokers are inhaling the chemicals with secondhand smoke. Many people who started smoking a while ago didn’t know how bad it really is, so it isn’t their fault. But they should try to quit now, because when kids see adults smoking they think its okay to smoke cigarettes. Approximately 211,375 kids have become smokers just in 2006. About 67,640 of those kids will die prematurely from smoking. Luckily, almost all schools now do guidance programs to keep kids tobacco free. Websites and phone help lines have been established to help adults quit, too.
Smoking kills so many people, and it would do the world a big favor if more people took a big step and quit smoking.
