Many kids at Lewiston Middle School recently received their laptops. Sure it’s extra weight to carry around, but it’s worth it. No more having to wait for your turn to use the PC in your classroom. Some kids, however, still have a dilemma.
The problem is that there are a lot of things to do for homework that require computer use, or if you don’t have a computer, it needs to be handwritten. Some kids don’t have neat handwriting. That problem has been solved. At the end of October there were meetings that parents and students attended so that students are able to take laptops home. This meeting covered how to take care of the laptops, so that they are ready to be used for school the next morning. Simple things like charging the laptop are very important. If a student’s laptop is not charged, the next day at school, how do they expect to use it? They can’t. It must stay in the cabinet that day and charge. It was very important that parents and students attended this meeting. If this meeting was not attended, the student would not be able to take their laptops home. All you had to do was get your parents to attend the meeting. I couldn’t wait to get to take mine home.
Even though the laptop technically isn’t yours to keep, just having one to call your own for the year is great. Sure for a lot of people getting to take your laptop home isn’t that amazing, but for a middle schooler it is great, so great that just thinking about it makes you all bubbly.
