FARMINGTON – Marilyn Martin Violet, 74, of Farmington, died Monday, Nov. 19, at Edgewood Manor Rehabilitation and Living Center.

She was born April 30, 1933, in Hanover, a daughter of Alexander and Aurore (Babineau) Martin. She graduated in 1951 from Stephens High School, Rumford, and earned her teaching degree from Farmington State Teachers’ College.

For many years, she was a fourth grade teacher at the Maillet School in Farmington and for 12 years was employed by the Department of Defense in Bad Kissingen, Germany.

She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association of Maine and was a former member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Farmington.

She volunteered at the Care Share Food Closet, Farmington, and enjoyed being a “member” of the “Coffee Troop,” a group of friends, most of whom are retired teachers, who meet regularly at McDonalds in Farmington.

She enjoyed traveling, bird watching, flower gardening, reading and challenging herself with crossword puzzles and word games.

Marilyn, a loving mother and grandmother, is survived by her children, one son, Kevin R. Violet and his companion, Lisa Anderson, of Gray; two daughters, Lynn A. Violet of Northfield, N.H., and Beth Scott and her husband, Warren, of Farmington; four grandchildren, Jason Violet, Lexis Anderson, Jennifer Scott and Aaron Scott; two brothers, Alexander Martin Jr. and his wife, Anita, of Ocala, Fla., and Ronald Martin and his wife, Claudett, of Sarasota, Fla.; one sister, Joan Martin Thurston of Lakewood, Calif.; seven nieces and nephews; and 11 great-nieces and nephews.
