In the rain forest there are four layers, the Emergent layer, the Canopy layer, the Understorey layer and the forest floor. When it rains in the rain forest it rains 1750 mm and 2000 mm. Emergent layer: Reaches 44 to 55m. In that layer it has hot temperatures and dry winds. Eagles, bats, different kinds of monkeys and butterflies live in the emergent layer. Canopy layer: Has the largest trees 30 to 45m tall. Canopy is a home to 40% plant species. Understorey layer: Birds, snakes, lizards, jaguars, boa constrictors and leopards live in the understorey layer. The leaves of the understorey are really large bigger than the emergent and canopy leaves. Only 5% of sunlight reaches the understorey layer. Forest floor: Receives 2% of sunlight. Rivers and swamps are on the forest floor. The forest ground has good vegetation. It is hot and humid and there is fungi to decay the animals and plant waste. There are mammals, reptiles, birds and invertebrates. There are over 5 million animals and plants in the rain forest.
We also have to save the rain forest because animals are losing their homes by habitat loss and trees are getting cut down. We need to save the rain forest because there are some animals that you don’t see often and some of our medicines and our shampoo can be made in the rain forest too. If the rain forest was destroyed the animals would be gone, all of the plants would be destroyed and we couldn’t be able to make our medicines and shampoos. So there are some ways why we should save the rain forest and some facts about the rain forest too.
