LIVERMORE FALLS – Members of the public and some selectmen agreed Monday to get together Monday, Nov. 26, at the fire station to make evergreen swags to decorate the downtown.

The $2,500 people voted to put toward new Christmas decorations didn’t go far this year, selectboard Chairwoman Jacking Knight said.

The board agreed to buy six Christmas banners this year for downtown light poles to complement the Livermore Falls Downtown Betterment Group’s “Welcome to Livermore Falls” banners, Knight said.

New Selectwoman Melanie Rounds and Selectman Ernie Souther plan to collect a mix of evergreens from their properties to donate and bring them to the fire station to be made into 25 swags, each to be decorated with a red bow.

The Flower Barn in Jay will make the bows for $3 each, Knight said.

Anyone is welcome to join in making the decorations at 6 p.m. Nov. 26 at the Fire Station on Park Street, she said.

Selectmen also discussed having Town Manager Martin Puckett talk to trash removal companies when they come to renew licenses. They want more recycling.

It was also discussed about asking the Jay transfer station and recycling coordinator to check haulers’ loads and if they spot one not recycling, to turn that hauler away, Knight said.
