Lisbon High School students are proud to be part of the Big Brother Big Sister program. Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) is a program where students and other adults volunteer time to spend with a child at Lisbon Community School, or Philip W. Sugg Middle School.
Once you meet your Little, you get to spend time with them at least once a week. During this time students play games, read books, help them with homework, or just talk about life. Most Lisbon High School students in the BBBS program keep the same Little throughout their high school years because they get to know more and more about their Little each year. According to Ashley Longley, one of the Bigs from LHS, “I think the Big Brother Big Sister program is amazing. I love my Little. She’s cute and we play games and have fun reading when we are together. It’s a very good program and I’m glad BBBS offer their program at our school.”
This is such a wonderful way of giving, and touching the life of another child. This program has changed many kids’ lives and they look at their Big Brother, or Big Sister as their role model. “As I see the BIG thing with this program is the opportunity to give back to the community. This is one of the first experiences in Lisbon for our high school students to directly give back to their local community. With this experience, students will be better leaders of their community. We are always looking for adult or high school mentors for our program,” shares Ron Hood, BBBS Mentor Coordinator. FYI contact Ron Hood at 782-5437 or email [email protected].
