Dear Sun Spots Readers: The Senior Companion Program is looking for several caring people in the Lewiston-Auburn area. Senior companions spend 15 to 20 hours a week making the day a bit brighter for elderly who are lonely and isolated.
Companions receive a tax-free stipend, mileage reimbursement and other benefits.
Our program is sponsored by the University of Maine Cooperative Extension.
If you are 60 years of age, on a fixed income and interested in helping the elderly you may be eligible to be a senior companion.
Please phone Anna Saar at 1-800-287-1482 for more information. Thank you for caring, especially during this season of Thanksgiving! – Anna Saar, South Paris.
Dear Sun Spots: I am wondering if any of the readers might have a 1969-1970 Student Book from Mr. Bernard’s School of Hair Fashion that they would like to give away or sell? This is for a gift for a beautician who would love to have one. She lost hers. Thank you and to all the readers. I may be reached at 375-9901. – Lise, No Town.
Dear Sun Spots: I am a 2004 Lewiston High School graduate and am currently in my senior year at Wheaton College. Two years ago, I gave up my spring break to volunteer for Habitat for Humanity. It was such a rewarding experience I have decided to do it again. There are 10 of us going from my college, and we all have to come up with money to cover travel expenses and living costs. They have told us we should raise $600 each. Last time I volunteered I did not raise enough so I had to put up $200 of my own money. I hope that I can raise enough money this year and not have to pay out of pocket.
My college has asked me to contact our local community to ask for donations. Habitat is a great cause, and anyone wishing to donate could please send it to Joe Lee, Wheaton College, 26 Main St., W0651, Norton, MA 02766. I can also be reached at 577-0365. Any amount would be appreciated. – Joe Lee, No Town.
