BARRE TOWN, Vt. – Martha M. Czok, 69, of Wildersburgh Common, Vt., died Tuesday, Nov. 13, at her home.
She was born May 20, 1938, in Lewiston, the daughter of Scott Arnold and Hermance (L’Heureux) Masters. She graduated from Lewiston High School in 1956, where she was a member of the National Honor Society.
In 1960, she received her bachelor degree in French from the College of New Rochelle in New York, and her master’s degree in education from St. Michael’s College in Winooski, Vt., in 1980.
She was a longtime French teacher in the Barre and Montpelier city school system.
She was first married to Charles J. Ochmanski and they later divorced. On July 2, 1991, she married Donald M. Czok Sr. in Montpelier. Since their marriage they made their home in Montpelier, Barre City and since 2005 at their present residence.
She was an avid Boston, Milwaukee and Atlanta Braves fan and followed the Boston Red Sox, a passion she shared with her husband and her father.
Hand quilt-making and quilt collecting were her special interests and she was active in the Vermont Quilt Festival and the Antique Quilt Appraisal Committee. She made quilts for the needy newborns at the Central Vermont Hospital in Berlin, Vt., and donated quilts to the Ronald McDonald Charity and the ABC Quilt Project.
Her memberships included the Washington County, Vermont and National Teachers Associations as well as the Retired Teachers Association.
She and her husband, Don, enjoyed their trips to the Maine coast as well as the Amish Country in Lancaster County, Pa.
Besides her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Lisa Card of Portland and Angela Ochmanski of Boca Raton, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Mary Squires and her husband, Paul, of Merrimack, N.H.; her stepson, Donald Michael Czok Jr. and his wife, Margaret, of Braintree,Vt.; nine grandchildren, Amanda and Kathryn Card, Monica, Andrea and Rebecca Squires and Sarah, Erin, Elizabeth and Michael Czok; and extended family in New Jersey.
She was predeceased by her parents; and her brother, Michael Masters.
