WILTON – Funeral services for Robert Leon “Buddy” Rainey of Wilton were held Wednesday from The First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, Main Street, Wilton, with the Rev. Dr. Douglas Allan Dunlap officiating. Organist was Mary Ryan. A duet by brother and sister Sammie Angel and James Harris included a religious medley of music as well as “God Bless America.” Sammie also sang “A Brand New Pair of Roller Skates.” Scripture readings included 1 Corinthians 13; Micah 6:8; and John 14. Congregational hymns included “In The Bulb There is a Flower” and “Let There Be Peace on Earth.” Longtime family friend read a eulogy by his children, “When I Think About a Man” and her own personally written poem about “Buddy.” Laurel Dube also read a collection of memories titled “About Bud.” Other close friends were also offered an opportunity to publicly share personal remembrances of their longtime friend and mentor. The congregation joined in the recitation of The Serenity Prayer and The Lord’s Prayer. After services, a reception, hosted by the church, was held in the vestry. Pallbearers were Terry Gordon, Scott Jones, Todd Farrington, Steve Smith, Kurt Welch and Joe Thibodeau. After cremation, private family committal prayers will be held at Lakeview Cemetery, Wilton. Arrangements were in the care of the Wiles Remembrance Center, Cremation Service and Funeral Home.
