LEWISTON – Alfred L. Millett, 81, of Waterford, died Thursday, Nov. 22, at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, with his loving family by his side.

He was born in Waterford on May 6, 1926, to Harold and Elizabeth (Richards) Millett. He married the former Persis Wilson on Dec. 24, 1947.

He worked in construction, owned and operated his own store and enjoyed working in the woods. He enjoyed hunting, harness racing, mowing his 20 acre farm and taking care of his neighbors’ lawns and caring for their dogs.

He was a past member of the United States Trotting Association and the American Legion. He faithfully served his country in the United States Navy, earning the World War II Victory Medal, American Area, Asiatic-Pacific and Admiral’s Commendation to Ship medals.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Persis of Waterford; two daughters, Cynthia Bartley of Kentucky and Toni and her husband, Brian Starbird, of Waterford; two sons, Michael Millett and his wife, Kathleen, of Jefferson, N.H. and Miles Millett and his wife, Carole, of Waterford; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Alfred was the sole surviving sibling of his family.
