Dear Sun Spots: I would very much like to have the Moody’s Diner recipe for Walnut Pie. Thank you. – Claire in Greene.
Answer: According to Moody’s Web site, www.moodysdiner.com, their blueberry muffins have garnered a gold medal from the Culinary Hall of Fame.
Gourmet magazine has requested the recipe for the world-famous walnut pie, and Saveur magazine named the whoopie pie one of the 100 top food finds of the year in 1999. For 80 years, Moody’s Diner has been a national icon, serving great food to more than a million customers.
Sun Spots located the following recipe posted online at www.timetoscrap.com.
She hopes you and family enjoy it.
Moody’s Walnut Pie Ingredients: up ¾ cup melted oleo (margarine), 9 eggs, ¾ teaspoon salt, 2 cups milk, 2 cups chopped walnuts, 1½ cups sugar, 3 heaped Tablespoons flour, 2½ cups dark corn syrup, 1½ teaspoons vanilla, 2 unbaked 9 inch pie shells.
Method: In large bowl, beat together melted oleo, sugar, eggs, flour, salt, vanilla and corn syrup. Beat well and stir in milk. Spread nuts in each uncooked 9-inch pie shell. Pour batter over nuts. Bake 30-40 minutes at 350 degrees. Makes two 9-inch pies.

Dear Sun Spots: I enjoy your column very much. I have a request. Is there someone who would be willing to make a quilt from my granddaughter’s souvenir T-shirts?
I will supply all the materials needed. I may be reached at 897-2102. – No Name, No Town.
Dear Sun Spots: Your column is a great resource. I have a three-part inquiry.
First, I’m looking for an adult size female mannequin, one you would find at a large department store. I’m willing to pay a reasonable price.
Secondly, I would love to have a silver Christmas tree with the colored spinning wheel, like the one my grandmother had. Such a pleasant memory. And finally, I miss getting the Kmart sale flyer in the Sunday paper. I’m curious to know if they are not circulating their flyers any more. – Brenda in Lisbon Falls.
Answer: According to a similar inquiry in 2003, Kmart had cut back on the number of inserts that the Sun Journal gets and was only sending enough inserts to do the southern and central Androscoggin County area.
Steve Costello, vice president of advertising and marketing at the Sun Journal, says this remains the case with this particular company as well as some others.
Regarding your mannequin, you might contact Dan Poulin who often carries those hard-to-find items. You can reach him at Orphan Annie’s, 96 Court St., Auburn, ME 04210, 782-0638.
