LEWISTON – Edgar J. Gallant, 74, of Route 108 in Rumford, died unexpectedly Thursday, Nov. 22, at CMMC in Lewiston.

He was born in Mexico, on Feb. 7, 1933, a son of James A. and Yvonne (Hamanne) Gallant. He was educated in Mexico schools and lived locally all of his life.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a career firefighter with the Rumford Fire Department and retired as deputy chief. He was a communicant of St. Athanasius and St. John Catholic Church.

Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Janice (Giambattista) Gallant of Rumford; two daughters, Cheryl L. Dudley and husband, Greg, of Silver Spring, Md., and Brenda G. Ferguson and husband, Doug, of Dixmont; three sisters, Anita Coulombe, Beatrice McInnis and Doris McInnis and husband, Bernard, all of Rumford; a brother, Arthur Gallant and wife, Ruth, of Saco; five grandchildren, Jessica Lynn Dudley, Jennifer Dudley, Molly Ferguson, Lucas Ferguson and Sadie Ferguson; and a great-granddaughter, Annalise S. Rodriguez.

He was predeceased by his parents; a brother; and several sisters.
