PERU – Vito F. Blunda, 85, of Ridge Road, Peru, died unexpectedly at his home on Friday, Nov. 23.

He was born in Rumford on Aug. 8, 1922, a son of Salvatore and Catherine (Amari) Blunda.

Vito was educated in local schools.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War.

He was employed with Oxford Paper Co. in Rumford and later at Con Edison in Staten Island, N.Y. and retired from there as a maintenance supervisor.

He was a communicant of St. Athanasius & St. John Catholic Church; and was a member of the Sons of Italy, the American Legion and the Rumford Lodge of Elks.

Vito enjoyed playing golf, hunting, fishing and most of all, spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife M. Jeanne (Garneau) Blunda of Peru; a stepson, Kevin Stanley and wife, Nora, of Peru; a sister, Mary G. Morrison and husband, Michael, of Portland; two grandchildren, Hannah Stanley and Mitchel Stanley of Peru; six nieces, Susan Carpenter and husband, Ralph, of Falmouth, and their children, Catherine and John, Janet Colucci and husband, Steve, of Portland, and their children, Taylor and Nicholas, Betty Blunda of Manchester, N.H., Debra Kunz, Karen Kunz and Catherine Kunz, all of St. Petersburg, Fla.; four nephews, Alan Cayer and wife, Brenda, of Mexico, and their children, Ian and Dylan, Robert Cayer of Mexico, Kevin Morrison and daughter, Phoebe, of Windham, and Timothy Carrier of Alaska; and sisters-in-law, Beverly Powell of Peru, Priscilla Hilgenberg and husband, Donald, of Florida, Frances Moffett and husband, Vern, of California, Audrey Garneau of Peru, and Midell Garneau of Peru.

He was predeceased by his parents; Alvina; three sisters, Anna Carrier, Catherine Cayer and Josephine Kunz; and several nieces.
