AUBURN – Department of Maine Marine Corps League Commandant Edward E. Hoyt II and members gathered for a department meeting at the New Auburn American Legion Post 153.
Central Maine Detachment Commandant Raymond Lemieux hosted the meeting with a full day planned.
A buffet was served at noon after which the Marine Corps League celebrated the 232nd birthday on Nov. 10. The cake was decorated with the Marine Corps design. The tradition is to have the oldest member cut first, with the youngest cutting the second piece. Oldest Marine present was Richard Stretton and youngest, Jack Travis.
Members were asked to visit the veterans’ monument across the street, made possible by the Scouts of Post 153 who raised the money in 2001. A Christmas wreath was placed on the monument by Lemieux and Senior Vice Department Commandant Linda W. Laweryson.
A meeting was held and officers were elected.
