AUGUSTA (AP) – Governor John Baldacci’s Christmas tree is green in more than one way.

The governor said the tree outside the Blaine House is energy-efficient as well as green in color.

The tree, which was lit up Monday night for the holiday season, uses light-emitting diodes for its lights.

Baldacci said the lights use one-tenth the power of conventional bulbs, while lasting 10 times longer. He said he hopes the tree serves as a reminder for all Mainers to do their part in conserving energy.
