Dear Sun Spots: Once again I have an interesting project for the wonderful readers of Sun Spots. Some of you may know about Recycled Birdhouses, a group of men with autism and other developmental challenges who build birdhouses out of reclaimed lumber. The guys are in need of about 20 plastic squeeze bottles, the wide mouth ones that come in 18-19-and 20-ounce sizes of mayonnaise, salad dressing or ketchup. They use them to store paint pigments, which are later mixed with glue for the mortar between roof shingles. If you have any of these wide mouth squeeze bottles, please phone me at 783-4872 and I will arrange pickup. – Kathy Williamson, Auburn.
Dear Sun Spots: We are looking for one sheet of white glacier hand cut stone siding, preferably white glacier. If anyone has a piece we could use, please phone 562-8049. – Neri Cormier, Dixfield.
Dear Sun Spots: My mom used to make a taffy she called Les Zell, something like that, with brown sugar, butter and water. It was boiled on the stove and she would put a small amount in a glass of cold water until it made a ball. In a buttered, glass pie plate she’d lay Spanish peanuts, pour the mixture over the peanuts and place it in the fridge. It would have to sit all night until you could dip it out with a spoon. I would love to make it again. If anyone knows the recipe and would be willing to share it, I would be very grateful. – B.G., Auburn.
Dear Sun Spots: I am wondering if you have names of people who do invisible weaving in the area. I have called numbers that were published a few years ago and received no response. I can be reached at 782-4260 for anyone that might be able to assist me here. – No Name, No Town.
