LEWISTON – Ernest A. Boothby, 81, of 63 South Road in Livermore, passed away late Saturday, Nov. 24, at Central Maine Medical Center.
He was born on July 9, 1926, the son of Arthur L. Boothby and Bertha Cook of Livermore. After leaving home, he set out to see new horizons, bringing him to California, where he met his beloved bride Pamela J. Hatcher. He returned with her to Livermore to enjoy a marriage of 56 years and raise a close and caring family.
He has always been well-known, loved and respected by family, friends and the community. For 24 years, he worked for the state of Maine Department of Transportation and raised chickens and rabbits.
Upon his retirement, he built a small greenhouse business in which he enjoyed good times with his family, friends and neighbors. He was a very social person and deeply involved in the community, part of the Livermore Historic Society, Norlands Living History Center, served on the town planning board, worked the polls at numerous elections and was for many years involved with the local snowmobile club. He was an outdoor enthusiast with a great appreciation for life and shared this with his children, raising them to be independent and resourceful.
In recent years, he has continued working in his greenhouse, hosted annual family reunions and spent time with his beloved wife and family. He has always been an avid reader with a thirst for knowledge and passion for history. He loved to share the fascinating stories of his life with anyone who would listen and was known for his sense of humor and endless supply of jokes. He will forever remain in our hearts as a caring husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend, neighbor and much more.
He is survived by his wife, Pamela; children, David Boothby and wife, Jan Hansen Boothby, of Peru, Dale Boothby and partner, Donnie Foster, of Livermore, Bonnie Kenny and husband, John Kenny, of Turner, Danny Boothby and wife, Wendy Lee Boothby, of Livermore and Kim Boothby of Livermore; grandchildren, Robert and Trisha Boothby, Tyler Boothby, Deanna Boothby, Gcoffery Butts, Sheri Withers, Beth and Eric Sawyer-Brown, John Jacques Kenny, Melissa Enain and Megan Guerin; great-grandchildren, Zachary Boothby, Bailey Boothby, Tarek Enain, Samir Enain, Issaic Withers, Evan Sawyer-Brown, Elijah Sawyer-Brown; brother, Stanley Boothby and wife, Betty Boothby; nieces, Barbara Boothby, Debbie Boothby and Janelle Harris; nephew, Alan Boothby; as well as close friend and neighbor Dean Roberts and wife, Patty; along with countless other, friends neighbors and extended family.
He was predeceased by his parents; sister, Joyce Bradford; nephew, Steven Bradford; and niece, Karen Bradford.
