PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – Geoff McDermott had 17 points and a game-high 13 rebounds to help Providence defeat Maine, 78-48, on Tuesday.

Weyinmi Efejuku added 14 points and Brian McKenzie added 13 to help the Friars to their fourth win in five games.

Providence are now 53-7 all-time versus America East opponents.

Brian Andre, with 17 points and 10 rebounds, was the only player in double figures for Maine (3-4).

McDermott scored the first six points for Providence which never trailed. Maine tied the game twice, including a layup by Jordan Cook to make it 13-13 after eight minutes.

The Friars held the visitors to just 35 per cent overall and scored 20 points off 23 Bear turnovers. They also had 14 steals to none for Maine.

McDermott had already posted a double-double by halftime (12 points, 10 rebounds) in leading Providence to a 37-25 advantage.

Providence shot 43 percent and made only 9 of 29 three-point attempts.
