CHERRYFIELD (AP) -Maine State Police have detonated a World War II-era bomb that was discovered in an eastern Maine blueberry field.

The state police bomb squad exploded the bomb Monday afternoon in a remote area of Cherryfield.

A worker for Cherryfield Foods found the bomb – which was 31 inches long and weighed about 100 pounds – earlier this month while installing an underground irrigation system in a blueberry field.

After police arrived Monday, they took the bomb to a remote field, wired it with explosives and blew it up from a safe distance away.
