According to what I read recently, a state law mandating school consolidation was passed this year with the intent of reducing the costs of education.

One meaning of the word “mandate” is an instruction from an electorate to the legislative body or its representatives to follow a certain course of action.

I haven’t, and I don’t think anyone else has, had a chance to vote on instructing the legislators to mandate school consolidation. I think the whole thing is illegal.
