FARMINGTON – Brewing beer or making wine isn’t as intimidating as it looks – if someone is handy to answer questions, teach classes and taste the product.
John and Patty Cormier, owners of Kennebec Home Brew Supplies, guarantee “a satisfactory brewing experience,” for their customers, Cormier said Wednesday from his new location at 235 Farmington Falls Road.
“When we started brewing,” Cormier said, “we followed directions but we failed.”
The store employee was there to sell the equipment, not explain how to use it or answer questions, he said.
The couple started Kennebec Home Brew Supplies in Farmingdale, selling equipment and supplies and helping to train customers, he said.
Looking to expand, they searched Mane and found that this area seemed to fit their needs, he said. The shop is next to Eagles Sport Shop, the former Nickerson Auto Sales, where they are converting the home’s two-car garage into a shop.
Novices are welcome to attend free classes and demonstrations, he said. Answering questions, tasting products and providing a hands-on approach to help the customer learn are his goals, he said. He encourages customers to call with questions or watch a how-to video he made for his Web site, www.kennebechomebrew.com.
“Learning to brew/vint your own beverages,” he said, “is like raising your own beef critter. You know what goes in to it.”
“Besides,” he added, “nothing is better than a young, fresh wine that you’ve made yourself.”
