Several months ago, the town of Jay purchased the former Jay Family Restaurant for a new town office and police station. The building committee members spent a lot of time going over different plans. They lowered the cost from $1.5 million to the present figure of $634,000.
Now the time has come to see if the people here in Jay will vote on an article to transfer money from the surplus account to complete the work on the new Jay Town Office. The bids are in and a bid will be awarded as soon as the article is passed. Building committee members recommend going forward on this planned project that Jay needs.
The committee has worked on plans for the project for years. A local architect worked with the committee and the employees of each department to keep the cost down to a minimum.
It is time to complete the building so the town officials can do their work in a safe environment. Construction could start right away and be completed in late spring. A generator and mobile tower must be installed. Paving the parking lot next summer would complete the project.
Townspeople should know that extra money from the state and from the sale of the present office building would be put in the surplus account to replenish the amount transferred. The voting will be on Dec 4.
