I’m writing in favor of a law stating if a pregnant woman is murdered, it counts as a double homicide, not a single murder. Recently, a woman who was seven months pregnant was murdered in Lewiston; the fetus she was carrying also died. The perpetrator will be held accountable for the murder of the woman, but not of the fetus.

At seven months, that fetus had what it needed to stay alive. Where is the justice?

Have we become a people so afraid of offending different political groups that we no longer take into account protecting that which cannot protect itself? If a mother wants to abort a fetus, she has the right to do that. What about the rights of the mother who wanted her baby to live, and who had that right stolen away by her killing and the killing of her unborn child? Shouldn’t that person be held accountable for ending the life of that child?

This makes me stop to ponder what kind of society have we become.
