PARIS – Several people indicted by the grand jury this month pleaded not guilty to charges against them Thursday. The arraignments were held at the Oxford County Superior Court before Justice Carl O. Bradford.
Those appearing included Keenan S. Angevine, 20, of 365 North Road, Bethel, who pleaded not guilty to Class A robbery. Angevine and a 17-year-old youth, who has since turned 18, are accused of injuring a then 42-year-old Rumford man outside the Mountain Valley Variety store in Rumford in September.
The man suffered a black eye and complained of neck pain after the incident, but refused medical treatment. A jacket, cell phone, and can of smoking tobacco taken from him were later recovered.
According to an affidavit by Sgt. James Bernard of the Rumford Police Department, Angevine admitted to being at the store, but said he and the youth acted in self-defense. Angevine said he had been drinking and blew .21 percent in a blood alcohol test given at the Rumford Police Department.
Andrew Burt, 39, of Paris, pleaded not guilty to Class C unlawful sexual contact and Class D unlawful sexual touching. Burt is accused of touching an 8-year-old Paris girl over her clothing.
According to an affidavit by Officer Raymond Parr of the Paris Police Department, Burt said he was trying to explain to the girl what to do if anyone touched her in a way that made her feel uncomfortable.
Malachy F. Kelliher, 46, of 20 Paris Hill Road, Paris, pleaded not guilty to Class B unlawful trafficking in cocaine, Class C unlawful trafficking in marijuana, and Class D unlawful furnishing of scheduled drugs.
According to an affidavit by the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, Kelliher was smoking crack cocaine at a Greenwood rest stop in July when he was arrested.
Gary S. Dean, 49, of 69 Slide Inn Road, Stoneham, pleaded not guilty to 16 counts of acquiring drugs by deception. Five of the charges are Class D misdemeanors and 11 are Class C felonies.
According to Dean’s indictment, the charges stem from incidents in Norway. Dean is accused of illegally acquiring alprazolam, Oxycodone, and morphine sulfate from January through July.
