Soon, maybe even today, the Loggins home on Vista Drive in Auburn will make its neighborhood awash in a twinkling deluge of holiday spirit, with audio accompaniment, intricate illuminated choreography and rubbernecking spectators.

This year will be reportedly even bigger, better, but shorter, than last year.

For those who haven’t seen it, the Logginses’ display is merriment at its most mesmerizing. Their acre-sized jubilee of color and sound is literally Christmas Gone Wild. So is resulting traffic along their cul-de-sac, which (unbelievable, given the amount of Christmas lights involved) is the display’s biggest problem.

Cars crawl and pedestrians prowl along, creating Christmas tension instead of cheer. An entrepreneur with an open-air bus would make a killing. Last year, bad acting outside caused the Logginses to pull the plug.

It was embarrassing.

Sure, the Logginses draw great attention upon their home with this display. But they want people to come, stare and engage the childlike wonder that’s inside each of us. All they’ve asked in return is for passers-by to respect their neighborhood, and move along fast enough to allow others to enjoy.

As requests go, these are rather minor. The Logginses are incurring the headaches and heartburn from this effort for the community’s enjoyment. They and their neighbors should, at least, be granted the peace they wish, while we clog their driveways and street.

Unlike the Christmas holiday, spectacles like the Loggins Light Show can’t be expected to come around once a year. So let’s enjoy it respectfully, and allow the lights to shine without interruption.

Let’s make this a Christmas without controversy. (On Vista Drive, at least.)
